John W. Brainerd, 77, of the Plantsville section of Southington, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born June 29, 1944 in East Lyme, John was the son of the late Warren and Vera (Sherman) Brainerd of New Britain. He attended Berlin High School and later graduated from Nashua High School in New Hampshire.
John was a thirty-year employee in the advertising department of the Meriden Record Journal. His second career was spent as a judicial marshal with the Hartford and West Hartford court systems. He was well admired by colleagues for his work ethic and loyalty.
John is survived by his children, Jay Brainerd and wife Kristen of Glastonbury and Jennifer Franco and husband Derek of Foxborough, MA; his grandchildren, Jake and Adam Brainerd, Celia and Trevor Franco, Elizabeth, Emily and Sarah Abrahamson, a great-granddaughter, Callie Mae Brainerd and her mother Olivia Chiapponi; his sister, Elinor Gregory and husband Robert of Milford, his brother in law Craig Tuttle and wife Charlotte of Plainville, and his many cherished nieces and nephews. He also leaves his loving companion Hilda Stifel of Southington.
John was a lifelong member of the Southington CT 1669 Elks lodge, dedicating many hours to charitable missions and developing lifelong friendships. He was an avid golfer, sports fan, jokester, and loyal friend. His family meant the world to him.
