John J. Brady, Jr., 77, of Manchester, NH, continued his journey on December 23, 2020, following a valiant battle with Alzheimer's Disease and ultimately succumbing to Covid-19 while in the care of The Arbors of Bedford.
John J. "Jack" Brady, Jr. was born in Troy, NY on January 17, 1943 to John J. Brady, Sr. and Janet T. (Nicholson) Brady. He was raised on 7th Avenue in Lansingburgh, NY and moved to Manchester, NH in 1970, raising his family on South Hall Street. He was predeceased by his wife of over 54 years, Sharon L. Brady on September 30, 2018.
Jack graduated from Catholic Central High School, Class of 1962 and Hudson Valley Community College, Troy, NY.
He spent his career in the paper and corrugated packaging industry, ultimately retiring from Longview Fibre Company. Always the consummate professional, he was frequently recognized within the industry and by peers and was merited with numerous achievement awards over the years. He was impeccable in dress as well as serving his customers, many of whom became lifelong friends. After retiring, he spent his later years criss-crossing New England driving for both Merrimack Street Volvo and IRA Lexus, something he enjoyed immensely.
Jack was committed to "giving back" and serving his community, volunteering over the years in many ways. As a young man, he served as an altar boy at St. Patrick's Church in Troy, NY; when his daughters were young, he and Sharon volunteered and helped develop the PTA at Jewett Street School. Jack was also instrumental with the development of the South Jr Deb Softball League and on any given spring evening or Saturday morning, could be found maintaining the fields, umpiring games or running the concession.
Later, Jack became interested in local politics and served for many years on various boards and committees, including the Manchester Zoning Board of Adjustment and the Conservation Commission as well as regularly volunteering at the polls on election day. A touching moment for him was when he was awarded the "Key to the City" of Manchester, NH in recognition for his volunteer work. An accolade he accepted with great pride.
Jack enjoyed being in nature whether it was skiing in his early days at Jay Peak or later with his daughters at McIntyre, ice skating at Dorrs Pond or the JFK Coliseum, fly fishing with his friends in the remote solitude of Maine, sailing "Camelot" out of York Harbor with family and friends, or cruising the seas to seek adventure and fun. Ultimately, what he came to love and enjoy most was spending time with his amazing grandchildren. Reading books in kindergarten class, watching their eyes light up when they met their favorite character at Disney, going with them on roller coaster rides, attending their academic or sporting events, or watching them graduate from whichever grade - Pop could always be found smiling and beaming with pride!
Jack will be remembered as a devoted husband to his wife, supportive father to his daughters and loving Pop to his grandchildren. The words "honest" "caring" and "gentleman" were most frequently used to describe Jack. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure to cross paths with him. As his life on Earth has ended, we will carry his memory forever in the fabric of our hearts, he will be remembered well. Please carry forward the kindness and respect he showed to everyone. God bless and may peace be with you.
