John J. Bower, 62, passed away Friday, January 22, 2021 due to complications from COVID-19.
John was born in Akron, Ohio to the late Jack and Dolores Bower and lived in the Akron and Tallmadge areas all of his life.
For the last 25 years, John worked beside his beloved sister, Lynn, to make Lynn's Bar and Grille a successful, happy place. He made everyone he met feel welcome and treated the staff like good friends. He could be stern but fair with customers when dealing with what he called their "buffoonery". He had a nickname for every single person close to him.
John was an Eagle Scout, along with his brother, Mike, they earned the honor of becoming Eagle Scouts together which was a first in Summit County. He loved all sports, especially the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians. He was the Ohio State Buckeyes #1 fan. He loved coaching and did so for more than 44 years, starting at the age of 18 years old under the guidance of Coach Patterson. He coached all of his children in CYO sports (baseball, football, and basketball). John was a loving and devoted father. He also loved playing softball for Lynn's Bar and Grille, doing so for over 30 years. John made many friends along the way and won many championships. Everyone loved and respected him.
In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his brother, Michael Bower. He is survived by his devoted wife , Annette Robinson; children, Daniel Bower, Meghan (Michael) Webster, and Andrew Bower; step-children, Lindsey (Justin) Jones and David Robinson; grandchildren, Hayden (BT), Ryker, Kamdyn, and Coleman; sisters, Lynn (Larry) Stalder and Patty (John) Timms; brother, James Bower; lifelong friends, David Mulheim, Ricky Trego, and Dale Ewers; and many more loving family and friends.
In order to keep family and friends safe during these uncertain times, a celebration of life will be held on his birthday, May 15, 2021 at the Akron FOP Lodge 7, 2610 Ley Dr, Akron, OH 44319 from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Until then, all of your love and prayers are appreciated.
