John D Bowen, 85 years old, gained his wings on January 23. 2022 surrounded by his loving wife, Rose Bowen and family. He passed away from complications of pneumonia and Covid-19.
John was born April 5, 1936 in Midway, Alabama to the late William and Carrie Bell Bowen. John and his brother, Don Bowen relocated to Akron, Ohio to be near their sisters Myrtis Carter and Susie King. John met and married Peggy Suddeth and four children were born to this union.
He worked for Thomas J. Dillion Construction Co. and retired from All Crane and Erection with over forty years of service. John joined United Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Roderick C Pounds, Sr. He enjoyed singing gospel songs with Henry Dunn, Dominion Family Church and United Baptist Church, etc., and was the founder of "Gospel Wonders" of Akron, Ohio.
John is preceded in death by his parents William Bowen, Sr. and Carrie Bell Bowen; brothers William Bowen, Jr., David Gowen, Oree Bowen, James Bowen, and Rev. O.B. Bowen; sisters Myrtis Carter, Susie King, Dominion Williams, Idean Crews, Carrie Bell Cummings, and Clara Simpson.
John Bowen left to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy to his wife, Rose Bowen of 34 years; sons Stacy (Tracy) Bowen, Dale (Renee) Bowen, Tony (Patricia) Bowen all of Akron, Ohio; daughters Crystal (Tracy) Anderson of Atlanta, GA. and Jewel Gandy of Birmingham, AL.; sister Robbie Stevenson-Harris of St Petersburg, FL; brothers Don C. (Sherry) Bowen, Eddie (Pauletta) Bowen both of Akron, OH.; and O'Neil Bowen of St, Petersburg, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, and many other family members and friends.
