Johanne (Leone) Marois passed on September 15th, 2025. She was the youngest of two daughters born to the late Frank and Laura Loretta Leone.
She was born in Springfield Massachusetts on May 27th 1936. Raised and educated in Springfield, Massachusetts, graduating from the former Springfield Technical High School. Upon graduation, she began her career in banking.
She met Raymond Marois, they married and moved to South Hadley where they raised their four children. They belonged to Saint Patrick's Church where she taught CCD for five years in grades 7th to 11th grade.
Once her children were older she returned to the workforce at James River Graphics starting her career in the Traffic Department. She became a continuing education student at Holyoke Community College receiving her Transportation and Warehousing certificate in International Marketing and Shipping. As part of her extended education she continued on to receive her certifications in hazardous and non-hazardous materials. She highly enjoyed her position as traffic manager at James River. She also was a member of the Delta Nu Alpha transportation fraternity, having served the fraternity as secretary, vice president, president and historian during her tenure.
When Ray and Johanne became empty nesters, they downsized and moved to the country town of Hadley where they enjoyed their time together gardening and entertaining. When Johanne retired from James River, she opened her own home sewing business for dressmaking, alterations and tailoring.
As Johanne and Ray aged, they decided to move to a warmer climate and relocated to Pinehurst, North Carolina. She continued her sewing, retiring fully from that five years ago.
She was predeceased by her husband Ray in 2024 after 57 years of marriage. She was predeceased by her parents Frank and Laura Leone, her sister Pat Flaherty and her niece Karen LaPlante.
She leaves her children Jeffrey (Lee) of Blue Ridge, Virginia, Laura (Peter) McAndrew of Calabash, North Carolina and Great Diamond Island Maine, Francis (Debbie) of Pinehurst, North Carolina, and Raymond (Joanne) of Monroe, North Carolina. She also leaves her dearest friend Pat Marois of Pinehurst, North Carolina, and all her friends at Saint Joseph of the Pines at Pine Knoll, Southern Pines.
She has eight grandchildren, Alison, Jeremy, Ellen (Chris), Francis (Alice), Robert, Samantha, Rebecca, and Cody and three great grandchildren Ava, Scott, and Daniella
