We mournfully announce that Joe Finley Wyatt, age 90, of Dallas, TX passed peacefully at home in Dallas on Sunday, October 16th at 3pm.
Joe was born on January 29,1932 in Dallas, TX to Bennie C. Wyatt and Virginia L. Wyatt Ayers. He graduated from Crozier Technical High School in June of 1950 and soon after enlisted in the United States Navy Reserves where he served from 1951-1955, and then the United States Marine Corps Reserves where he served from 1955-1958 earning an honorable discharge from both. He began his career at Wyatt Industries in 1954 where he spent 21 years before moving to Houston. He retired in 2000 from W.M Kellogg after another 25 years as an Estimator in the oil industry. He married his first wife, Carole A. Wyatt in 1952, with whom he had 2 children, daughter LeeAnne and son Bennie. He later re-married to Frances P. Ellington Wyatt in 1964, welcoming her 2 sons, John and Richard into his family. His children remember him as a kind, loving, generous, and supportive father who served as a tremendous role model for all of them.
Joe was an accomplished bowler and former PBA member that enjoyed many competitive years in the sport. He was also the last surviving member of the Munger Mongrels baseball team out of East Dallas that became a social family of more than 50 years. He loved to travel with his children and grandchildren during summer vacations, to which they would acknowledge are some of their fondest memories of him. Joe was passionate about his family and as the patriarch of the Wyatt and Ellington families, he will be deeply missed.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Frances P. Ellington Wyatt, also of Dallas, but spent most of their married life living in Houston, TX. He was also preceded in death by his stepson John "Red" Ellington.
Joe is survived by his 3 children LeeAnne Keith McKinney, Bennie K. Wyatt, and stepson Richard A. Ellington with wife Susan K. Ellington, 7 grandchildren, Michelle Mayes with husband Billy Mayes, Beth Albrecht-Wyatt with wife Stephanie Albrecht-Wyatt, Blye Wyatt, Baylee Wyatt, Holly Keith, James Ellington with wife Theresa Ellington, and Brandon Ellington with wife Nosheska Ellington, and 9 great-grandchildren, Brandon Mayes, Silas Wyatt, Journey Douglas, Alex Dominici, Kathryn Ellington, Evelyn Ellington, Jazmin Torres, Ian Parrilla, and Adeline J. Wyatt Ellington.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 25th from 6-8pm at Restland Funeral Home 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243 followed by a graveside service on Wednesday, October 26th at 11am. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Joe's life.
