Joe Leman Burrage, 85, passed away May 24, 2021 in Amarillo, Texas, due to heart and kidney disease, and other age-related issues. He was born August 9, 1935 in Coleman County Texas. He was the son of the late Richard L. (Doc) Burrage and C. Jewell Briggs-Burrage. He grew up attending schools in Coleman, graduating from Coleman High School in 1953. He married his beloved wife of 59 years, Tonie Lavon Tomlinson-Burrage, on June 5, 1954. They made their home and raised their family of 3 children in Coleman, Texas. Joe spent his adult life working at a job he enjoyed, helping to manage the Shoppin' Baskit grocery store, until he retired. He always greeted his customers with a smile and a wonderful sense of humor. He always had a joke or two, to share, as well. Joe loved music, dancing, and fishing. He and his wife, Tonie, enjoyed getting away once in a while to Ruidoso, New Mexico to watch the Horse Races. He enjoyed spending time with his sister, Ellene, after she returned to Coleman to live, and he liked watching sports on television. In his last years, he spent more time at church, and at the senior center, visiting and enjoying whatever functions were taking place. In the future, he will meet his final resting place, in a family plot with his wife, Tonie, at the Gunsight Cemetery in Gunsight, Texas. It was his wish that no public service be held.He is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Charlotte and Bobby Brewer of Dayton, Texas, Teresa and Tracy Ball of Amarillo, Texas, and one son, Van Burrage. He is survived by 3 grandsons, Joshua Brewer of Houston, Texas, Derek Burrage of Coleman, Texas, and Trey Ball of Amarillo, Texas. He is survived by his 2 granddaughters, Tiffanie Hankamer of Santa Anna, Texas, and Kristi Burrage of Coleman, Texas. He is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren, Paige and Devin Kirkpatrick, and Dezmond and Cameron Holloway of Coleman, Texas, Coleton Kirkpatrick of Santa Anna, Texas, and Cade Ball of Amarillo, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Richard (Doc) Burrage and Jewell Burrage, his sister, Ellene Burrage-Caterina, and his wife, Tonie Tomlinson-Burrage, all of Coleman, Texas.
