Jody Lee Leal, Sr., age 49, died on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at his home in Pecos, New Mexico. Rosary will be recited at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 24, 2022, and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated following at 10:30 AM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Clayton, New Mexico with Fr. Joseph Baltz as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Clayton Memorial Cemetery in Clayton, New Mexico by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton. Jody Lee Leal, Sr. was born on October 15, 1972, in Clayton, New Mexico to Rodney David Leal and Marilyn Marie (Madrid) Leal. He attended school in Clayton where he played football and baseball, after graduating from Clayton High School in 1991, Jody attended New Mexico Highlands University on a baseball scholarship, and he earned his bachelor's degree in education in 1996. Jody married Christine Alisha (Walker) Leal on December 22, 1995, in Clayton. Jody began teaching the third grade in Pecos, New Mexico in 2001 and over the years he taught multiple grades from Pre-K to High School History and Physical Education. He was very active in coaching Little League Baseball until he had to give it up because of his battle with cancer. Jody also earned his master's degree in special education with an early childhood emphasis from Eastern New Mexico University in 2015. Jody was preceded in death by his father, Rodney David Leal, his grandparents, Gilbert Leal, Mary Leal and Nellie Bodine and by his mother-in-law, Rosella Trujillo. SURVIVORS: WIFE: Christine Leal of Pecos, New Mexico. 2 SONS: Jody Leal, Jr. "J.L." of Ft. Carson, Colorado and Tristan Leal of Pecos, New Mexico. 1 DAUGHTER: Shania King and her husband Brian of Ft. Carson, Colorado. MOTHER: Marilyn Leal of Clayton, New Mexico. 3 BROTHERS: Phillip Madrid and his wife Brenda and Michael Leal all of Clayton, New Mexico and Joseph Leal of Las Cruces, New Mexico. 1 SISTER: Katie Leal of Clayton, New Mexico. And numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins
