Jocelyn Mason Cain, 96, died Friday, December 25th, 2020 at Kendal at Hanover in Hanover, NH.
She was born in Baltimore, MD on July 15th, 1924 daughter of Hildegarde (Eldridge) and Donald Mason. She lived briefly in White Plains, NY and grew up in Green's Farms, CT before graduating from Wellesley College in 1945. She was married to Craig J. Cain Dec 28, 1946 and together they moved to the Chicago, IL area living in Evanston, IL for 43 years where she raised 5 children. She and Craig moved to Kendal at Hanover in 1993.
During her working years, her career included working for the Westport Town Crier Newspaper, Parents Magazine, Children's Press: Science Encyclopedia as well as free-lance writing and teaching adult evening classes in creative writing in Evanston Township High School. In her spare time, she was a volunteer in Presbyterian Church groups, various hospitals, Meals-on-Wheels, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and the PTA. She also served as the Northminster Presbyterian Church Women's Guild Chairman, Vice President of the Evanston Woman's Club and was a Sunday School teacher. Her hobbies included creative writing, watercolor painting and gardening.
She was predeceased by her husband, Craig Cain, on August 29th, 2014. Survivors include her children Constance Hungerford of Swarthmore, PA; Christopher Cain of Walnut Creek, CA; Barbara Hegarty of Cary, NC; Jennifer Bross of Hernando, FL; Carolyn Eng of Springfield, VA; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
A family service will be held at a later date in Illinois. Rand-Wilson Funeral Home in Hanover, NH is in charge of arrangements with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, Skokie, IL.
