Joanne Fiske passed away on Wednesday, December 9th, 2020 at the age of 69 from a lifelong battle with chronic disease. A bright and shining light that brought joy and happiness to many is now shining in heaven.
Joanne Marie Fiske was born November 11th, 1951 in Utica, NY and moved to Clearwater, Florida at the age of 8. She graduated from the University of South Florida and had a meaningful career as a special education teacher of all ages from elementary to high school. Joanne had a passion for animals, enjoying the companionship of cats and dogs. She loved the Christmas season and was famous for her amazing home Christmas decorations. She would even host open houses so others could enjoy the decorations and Christmas spirit. Joanne had a talent for decorating and crafts, which she would use to make beautiful gifts for people, including personalized cards and journals, always wrapped with the most beautiful gift wrapping. But most important, Joanne possessed a very large, warm and loving heart. People were drawn to her warm accepting smile. People felt safe around her and she was a fantastic listener.
Most were unaware of her tremendous lifelong suffering with disease, for she never focused on the disease but on the joy of life. She never let her disability prevent her from enjoying life and she traveled with her family on wonderful vacations. She now has left behind the suffering of lupus, fatigue, and chronic pain. She has left an indelible mark on many including her family who miss her dearly.
Joanne was preceded in death by her father Fred Burmaster and mother Maggie Burmaster. She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Dr. Darrell Fiske, daughters, Kristi Ferguson and Dr. Kaitlin Fiske, and siblings Lori Wagner and Larry Burmaster.
A Christmas celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, December 19th, at 1 PM at Christ Fellowship Church in Stuart, 10205 Pratt Whitney Rd, Stuart, FL 34997. Visitation will start at Noon. The family requests that all attendees honor Joanne's love of people by wearing a face mask. In lieu of flowers, Joanne requests donations to The Humane Society of the Treasure Coast. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Martin Funeral Home Stuart Fl.
