Joann Falls Schmeisser, age 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 28th. She is survived by her children, Harry Christian Schmeisser III (Leila) and Elaine Schmeisser Miller (Stephen) and five grandchildren, William Schmeisser, Michael Schmeisser, Hunter Schmeisser, Aubrey Miller Kyte (Jake) and Bennett Miller. She is also survived by her brother, Willam Falls (Bess) of Webb, Mississippi, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Jerry and Elizabeth Falls of Webb, Mississippi, and her twin sister, Elizabeth Falls Munro of Biloxi, Mississippi.
Joann graduated from Greenwood High School, attended Stephens College, and the University of Mississippi, where she was a Chi Omega. She also attended the Memphis Art Academy. After marrying and having her children, she was president of the Maternal Welfare League and a founding member of the Dyslexia Foundation of Memphis. Among other organizations she enjoyed were Les Passes, Junior League, Dixon Gallery and Gardens, the Memphis Book Club and many Guilds at the Church of the Holy Communion.
One of her greatest joys was her artwork. Her proudest moment was when she won "Best in Show" at the Memphis Germantown Art League which was a portrait of her granddaughter Aubrey. She also enjoyed many travel adventures which she loved having her children and their spouses as her travel companions.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Church of the Holy Communion on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 1:00 PM with the family receiving friends beginning at 12:00 Noon. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Dyslexia Foundation of Memphis or the charity of your choice.
