JoAnn Davis, 90, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in
Tupelo. She was born in Guin, Alabama, on March 3, 1934, to Albert and Ruby Garrard. She worked with
the Peoples Bank and Trust company in Tupelo and later was a homemaker for several years while
raising her family in Booneville. In addition to her homemaker duties, she served in a part-time role as
the Booneville Welcome Wagon Representative where she greeted and assisted new residents moving
to the city of Booneville. JoAnn returned to full time work with the Booneville School District's Central
Administrative Office where she eventually retired. She has been a resident of the Traceway Retirement
Community in Tupelo since 2019.
JoAnn graduated as the Salutatorian from Philips High School in Bear Creek, Alabama, where she met
and married her high school sweetheart, Wallace Thurston Davis. Her hobbies included her love for
playing the piano and singing, working in her flower beds, selling Mary Kay cosmetics, and playing
Bridge. She was an active member of the Booneville Church of Christ during her time in Booneville.
JoAnn and her husband Thurston lived in Tupelo for many years prior to moving their family to
Booneville in 1974. Thurston worked for 38 years with Renasant Bank (then the Peoples Bank and Trust
Company). While in Tupelo, JoAnn was a member of the West Main Church of Christ.
She is survived by her sons, Wally Davis (Traci) of Saltillo, and Walt Davis (Kari) of Oxford; three
grandchildren, Luke Davis (Ashley) of Saltillo, Heath Davis (Lyndi) of Booneville, and Kaidee Davis of
Oxford; and three great-grandchildren, Lawson Davis, Salem Davis, and Lucie Davis. She is also survived
by her sister, Linda Boyd (Max) of Madison, Alabama, along with many extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, W. Thurston Davis, her parents, her brother Ted
Garrard; and her sister, Gwen Cummings.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at McMillan Funeral
Home in Booneville with Minister Doug Greenway officiating. Burial will be with family members only in
the Tupelo Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, prior to the
service at the funeral home.
