Joan Mildred Kershaw Young of Marietta, Georgia passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2021. She was born August 19, 1934 to William Henry Kershaw, Jr. and Betty Mildred Bryant Kershaw in Atlanta, Georgia. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Atlanta, Ga. before marrying the love of her life, William (Bill) Frederick Young, Jr. in 1955. They enjoyed 49 years of marriage until his death in 2004. They lived in Decatur and Granada Hills, CA before settling in Marietta where Bill was employed by Lockheed. There they had many wonderful friends with whom they enjoyed golf trips, playing cards, dining, and attending theater and other social events. They enjoyed traveling and made numerous trips to Europe, Canada, and in the U. S. Joan was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Marietta. She played both piano and organ and loved attending local orchestra concerts. She was active in the Cobb Symphony Orchestra (now Georgia Symphony Orchestra) Guild and served as Secretary. She was also a generous supporter of Theater in the Square in downtown Marietta. She will be remembered by her friends and family as a very endearing, generous, loving, and humorous person, a devoted wife and friend, and an avid dog lover, particularly of Pembroke Welsh Corgis. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Kershaw Savage of Toccoa; niece, Christie Savage Guest (Robert) of Moore, SC; nephew, Gregory Alan Savage (Kellie) of Toccoa; niece, Laura Cleveland of Tucson, AZ; four great-nieces, two great-nephews and several cousins. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Joan's doctors, other healthcare workers, and loyal caregivers, Kathi Hewett and Mary Bibbs for their wonderful care. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Marietta. Services will be at 3 pm Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home, Marietta, with Rev. Joe Evans officiating; interment to follow in Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. at the funeral home.
