Joan Hannie Rhyne beloved wife, sister, mother and grandmother passed away March 27, 2022. Joan was born October 16, 1937 in Abbeyfeale, County Limerick Ireland to Edmond and Margaret Sheehy. After completing her schooling in Ireland, Joan went to London, England and earned her certificate in Pulmonary Tuberculosis Nursing at the Grove Park Hospital. After working there for two years, she further spent two years studying General Nursing at the German Hospital, also in London, earning a second certificate in Nursing in 1964.
In 1965 Joan emigrated to the United States joining her sister Kathleen and husband Timothy Forde who were living in New York City. While there she worked at the Beekman Downtown Hospital.
In the meantime, an acquaintance decided to look her up while he was in London only to find out she was living 10 or 15 miles away from him in New York. Somehow, they managed to get things squared away and were married in 1967 moving to Oakdale, NY on Long Island.
On the Island, Joan continued nursing at Brookhaven State Hospital then as a school nurse at Connetquot High School. Following that, she volunteered at The Little Flower Nursing Home. She also raised two wonderful daughters Julie and Jennifer and Henry H. Rhyne III, a son of her husbands by a former marriage. In 1987 they moved to Palm City where she continued working as an office nurse for several cardiology doctors.
Joan finally retired and then went to work absolutely spoiling her adoring husband. She was an extremely capable but loving and caring person who is survived by her younger brother Maurice Sheehy whom she missed as much as Ireland; her husband Henry H Rhyne Jr; her step-son Henry H. Rhyne III; her daughters Julie Cianciulli and Jennifer Parsons; grandsons Michael Cianciulli and Nicholas Cianciulli, both in the US Army; and Chandler Parsons who is a Boy Scout. Joan will be sorely missed by them and all who were privileged to know her.
Friends are invited to gather at Forest Hills Funeral Home, 2001 SW Murphy Road, Palm City, on Friday April 1st at 1:30 P.M. with services to be held in the chapel at 3 P.M. Committal services will immediately follow on the grounds at Forest Hills Memorial Park.
