Joan QuastSeptember 1, 1944 - July 1, 2022San JoseJoan Carol Quast, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend passed away on July 1, 2022.Joan was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 1, 1944 to Joseph and Florence Infelise. After moving to San Jose as a child, Joan attended St. Mary's primary school, where she met her future husband, Patrick. A graduate of Notre Dame High School, Joan began her career as a hairdresser before earning her credentials to teach preschool, and later, kindergarten. For almost three decades, she taught at a variety of schools in the Alum Rock School District. In 2000, Joan was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, prompting her eventual retirement. Not one to be idle, she spent her free time volunteering for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Silicon Valley and helping to care for her grandchildren. Joan was full of life and loved her family fiercely. Among her favorite things were trips to Tahoe to gamble, traveling with Pat to new destinations, taking cruises to Alaska and Southern Europe, playing Phase Ten with her grandchildren, and reading a good book. But above all, being with her family was her greatest joy in life. Those who loved her will miss her dearly.Joan is survived by her husband of nearly 56 years, Patrick, sons Jeff and Brian Quast, daughter Candice Lipps, daughters-in-law Sara and Kelly Quast, son-in-law, Jeremy Lipps, seven adoring grandchildren, Owen, Sofia, Addison, Connor, Marley, Christian, and Joshua, and her sister Mary DeRose.A private visitation will be held Friday, July 8 from 4 – 6pm at Darling-Fischer in Campbell.
