Joan Langness (Gilbertson), of Bloomington, earned her angel wings on February 17, 2024.
Joan was born on July 22, 1954, in Hudson, Wisconsin, the daughter of James and Nina (Lyksett) Gilbertson. She was raised in Hudson, graduating from Hudson High School in the class of 1972. She took great pride that she was homecoming queen in her senior year. Furthering her education at the University of Wisconsin River Falls, Joan ultimately earned her Associates of Arts degree from Normandale Community College. She was united in marriage to Terry Langness of Somerset at Bethel Lutheran Church in Hudson. This union was blessed with three children: Emily, Erin, and Tom.
Joan loved to paint, primarily watercolors. She was an amazing, talented artist whose works found their way into our extended family's homes. She founded JL Designs, channeling her passion for painting into beautiful portraits, canvas prints and floor cloths. Joan also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, piano, and shared her love of music by joining the Transfiguration Handbell Choir. She loved Grand Marais, Laguna Beach, Barbados, visiting Erin, Fall and Winter. She also really loved being a mom and a grandma. Her family affectionately referred to her as "Grandma Calm."
Joan is survived by her husband Terry; daughters Emily (Joe) Krolak of Lakeville, MN, Erin (Grant) Stevens of Sun Valley, ID; son Tom Langness of Bloomington; grandchildren April and Pete Krolak; brother Jim (Anita) Gilbertson; sister Julie Gilbertson (Bob Goodfellow); sisters/brothers-in-law: Pamela Langness, Carey (Steve) Jones, Tim (Babette) Langness, Tyron (Dana) Langness, and Tami (John) Hagen; along with numerous nieces and nephews and her beloved rescue dog, Tootsie.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Nina Gilbertson; parents-in-law, Camilla and Wesley Langness and brothers-in-law, Tobi and Todd Langness.
A Celebration of Joan's Life will take place on July 20th at 2:00 pm at Transfiguration Lutheran Church, 11000 France Avenue So., Bloomington, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the memorial at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Alzheimer's Disease Research. Memorial and cremation services are entrusted to the O'Connell Family Funeral Homes.
