Joan Marie Hudson Mooney passed peacefully of natural causes on February 8, 2021 in Fort Worth, Texas. She was surrounded by her sister and her three sons. Joan was born on October 5, 1930 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the daughter of Clarence and Mary Hudson. She and her future husband, Kevin Mooney, attended Holy Family Catholic School in Tulsa from first through twelfth grade. She was the Homecoming Queen. After high school, Joan and Kevin both attended the University of Tulsa where she was President of Chi Omega sorority and earned a B.B.A. in 1952. She married Kevin in 1953. After living in North Carolina and Tulsa, Joan moved with Kevin and their family to Fort Worth, Texas in 1959. She spent the remainder of her life there.
In the mid-1970s, after getting her rambunctious children through most of their formative years, Joan became a guidance counselor with Nolan Catholic High School in Fort Worth. She also attended Texas Women's University at night where she earned a Master's degree in clinical psychology in 1979. Joan loved her time at Nolan where she made many long-standing friendships.
Joan was pre-deceased by her husband of 67 years, Robert Kevin Mooney, and is survived by sons Michael (Melissa), Shaun (Dee Ann), and Stephen (Lesley) Mooney, two grandsons, Matthew and Shaun Michael, her sister Margie Finegan, and several nieces and nephews. A private Catholic funeral service was held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Fort Worth. Joan will be interred alongside Kevin next to her in-laws in Calvary Cemetery in Tulsa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Joan's memory to the Gladney Center for Adoption, 6300 John Ryan Drive, Fort Worth, Texas 76132-4122.
