Joan Pervier Bollenbacher
Help us celebrate Joan! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Joan.
Joan Pervier Bollenbacher, 73, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on December 26, 2020 in Wilmington, NC.
She was born on October 18, 1947 at Fort Richardson, Anchorage, Alaska, the daughter of the late Col. George and Louise Pervier and was preceded in death by her brother, Graham Wiles Pervier on October 5, 2020.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Robert Alan Bollenbacher (Bob), her sons, Richard Bollenbacher and his wife, Sarah and David Bollenbacher and his wife, Carrie; grandchildren, Matthew, Jack, Stephen, Heidi, and Cora; and, a host of much-loved extended family and friends.
She was a graduate of Mary Washington College (University of Mary Washington) in Fredericksburg, VA where she met Bob on a blind date, who was attending the nearby University of Virginia.
Growing up in a US Army family, Joan was no stranger to world travel - which she continued with Bob during his career in the US Navy to, among other places, Japan and the United Kingdom.
She was a career homemaker of epic proportion, always wearing a smile, always going out of her way for others, and always making sure that her family was thoroughly provided with care - before that of herself. She was also a highly skilled needleworker, an avid kayaker, and an active member of her community.
A truly selfless and beautiful person, she raised 2 boys with grace and style - requiring both the mastery of throwing a football and the possession of unrivaled patience, love, and encouragement.
She and Bob were the love of each other's lives and he adored her immeasurably.
The family would like to explicitly thank the wonderful staff at Plantation Village in Wilmington, NC for their help, encouragement, and support during the time of her illness.
No funeral services will be held at this time in consideration for the time and effort of others.
In lieu of flowers, the family would request donations be made to their home church - St Mark's United Methodist Church - located at 99 East Mercury Boulevard Hampton, VA 23669.
