Jo Smith Frey (Jo Baby) age 89, of Kennesaw, passed away Wednesday morning, September 25, 2024. Jo was born at home in rural Acworth on her grandparents' farm, on February 4, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Mitchel Payden and Evelyn McCoy Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, C.A. Frey, and son Dean McCoy Frey. Survivors include her daughter, Beverly Frey DeVille (Ed) of Marietta, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. A life long resident of Acworth, Jo graduated from Acworth High School in 1952. She married C. A. that same year. Growing up she lived in Acworth attending school and starting work at an early age at Lacey's Drug Store. As an adult, she worked for the Ernest Gray Insurance Agency and the Cumberland Insurance Agency. Jo spent her entire life in service to the Lord. She was very active in every church to which she belonged, singing in the choir, teaching children's Sunday School and volunteering in Vacation Bible School. She also worked with the Women's Missionary Union. At Shady Grove Baptist Church in Marietta, she also served as the church chef, organizing and cooking for most all the church's Wednesday night suppers and special events. Jo was very involved in the lives of her children and attended many ballgames and chorus concerts. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 29 from 2-3pm at Collins Funeral Home in Acworth. A celebration of life will follow in the chapel at 3pm with Rev. Marlon Longacre and Rev. Henry Avery officiating. Interment will be at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Acworth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Georgia Baptist Children's Home and Family Services in Palmetto, Samaritan's Purse, or the ASPCA.
