ROCKY MOUNT - Jimmy "Jim" Craig Womble, age 83, passed away on Friday, March 26, 2021 at Nash UNC Health Care. Born in Nash County, NC on April 3, 1937, he was the son of the late James Leon "Sol" Womble and Virgie Lee Southall Womble.
Jim graduated from Nashville High School in 1955. While there he played every sport available. He attended Louisburg College, Mercer University and found his way to UNC Chapel Hill, then Auburn University, where he graduated with a degree in Chemistry. He worked at Burlington Industries in Clarksville, VA as a chemist and then moved back to Rocky Mount and became a pharmaceutical sales rep with Squibb. He opened The Home Medical Supplies which he sold later to start a career as a stockbroker. Missing helping others in the medical supply business, he opened Home Health Care Supplies. He got certified as a Certified Senior Advisor. He helped many people with their medicare supplements to make sure they had the best plan at the best price. He loved his customers. Jim was always thinking of ways to help others. His main hobby was going to UNC football games. He had been a member of Rams Club over 55 years. He was previously a Rotarian, a member of the Nash Hospice Board and a number of civic organizations including the Elks Lodge.
Jim is survived by his wife of 40 years, Brenda English Womble of Rocky Mount; his sons, Jimmy "Craig" Womble II (Gwendy) of Morehead City, and Jason Young (Leigh) of Morrisville; his grandchildren, Ollie Womble, Hoppy Womble, and Jackson Young; his sister, Sylvia Moore (Doug) of Fountain; and his sister-in-law, Jean Ayers, who always fixed brownies with lots of pecans for him.
A Celebration of Jim's Life will be held at a later date.
