On Tuesday, May 19, 2020, Jimmy J. Polston passed away peacefully after a brief battle with cancer at the age of 74.
Jim was born on May 12, 1946, in Princeton, Indiana. A lifelong Mizzou Tigers fan, he graduated with a BS in Agriculture from the University of Missouri before embarking on a career as an FFA advisor and agricultural teacher in Missouri. He later worked with Gustafson Inc. and MBS, Inc., servicing clients all over the midwestern United States.
Always a lover of the mountains and all the peace they offered, Jim moved to his beloved southwestern Colorado upon his retirement. He had fallen in love with Silverton and Durango as a young man, taking his family for long summer trips to the area for many years. His son, James Polston, and stepson Shawn Crowley recall many wonderful moments with Jim as he passed his love of nature and Colorado on to them.
His dream to return permanently was fulfilled in 2010 when he moved to Durango to fish in the Animas River and Molas Lake, take scenic drives along his favorite mountain passes, and play golf in the shade of the red hills surrounding Durango. He was joined shortly in these and other adventures by his partner, Georgene Mills. His surviving family will return his ashes to Molas Lake, according to his wishes, so that he will be eternally connected to his favorite place and the many wonderful associated memories.
In addition to Georgene Mills, James and Carolyn Polston, and Shawn and Mandy Crowley, he is survived by the mother of his son, Cynthia DeLaney and Shawn's children Gwen and Tyler. He is predeceased by his parents James and Dona Polston, and his brother Gary Polston. A service will be held at a later time.
