Jimmy Walden Floyd, age 72 of Sevierville, TN died on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 after a brief illness. He was born and reared in Sumter, SC, where he lived until relocating to TN in June of 2020 to be near his son and daughter-in-law.
Jimmy served in The United States Air Force from 1968 to 1972. He graduated from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA with a B.S. degree in criminal justice. Upon graduation, Jimmy returned to Sumter and established his wholesale grocery business, Floyd Wholesale, which operated for 35 years until his retirement in 2013.
Several years later, he began a second career with Jones Chevrolet Cadillac in the service department as their courtesy driver. Never knowing a stranger and enjoying meeting and helping people, Jimmy loved the years working there and the many friendships that were made.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Walden and Dorothy Caughman Floyd of Sumter, SC, and his brother, Michael Davis Floyd, of Ridgeway, SC.
A devoted and loving husband and father, Jimmy is survived by his wife of 41 years, Abbie Gardner Floyd, of Sevierville; his son, Benjamin Derek Floyd and daughter-in-law, Christle Michelle Floyd, of Dandridge. He is also survived by his sister, Dianne Floyd Weatherly, of Sumter, SC, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews that he dearly loved.
A private graveside service with military honors will be held in Knoxville, TN on February 5, 2021. A celebration of life service will be held in Sumter, SC at a later date when it is safe to gather. Online condolences may be made at www.atchleyfuneralhome.com.
