We are devastated to announce the unexpected passing of Jimmie Lee Jewell, 65, of Charlotte, NC, on August 24th, 2021.
Jimmie was born in Horse Cave, Kentucky on February 12th, 1956 to Beatrice and Joe Jewell. He was valedictorian of his high school class, and was also voted most friendly of his class. He double majored in computer science and math at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky, and went on to graduate school at the University of Kentucky (Go Wildcats!). He landed his first computer programming job at IBM, which brought him to Charlotte, NC. He met his beautiful wife Kathie at IBM, and they built a wonderful life as they raised their children, Ashley and Kevin. Jimmie and Kathie shared a passion and love for travel, and the family took many trips across the United States together. Although Jimmie lost his beloved wife Kathie in 2010, he was extremely blessed to meet his girlfriend Kate in 2016. Jimmie and Kate also shared a passion for travel, and they absolutely loved traveling the world together. Jimmie worked for IBM for 36 years, and lived life to the fullest in his retirement. He slept in every morning, did yoga, played golf, played pickleball, traveled to so many incredible places, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Jimmie was a truly good man. He always did the right thing without expectation of credit and never complained. He was so loving, thoughtful, kind, compassionate, and helpful. To say that Jimmie was one in a million isn't enough to describe the impact he had on his family and friends. He was one in a billion.
He is preceded in death by his mother Beatrice Jewell, father Joe Jewell, and his wife Kathie Jewell. He is survived by his daughter Ashley Jewell, son Kevin Jewell, sister Pam Matthews, and girlfriend Kate Krauss. A visitation will be held at Wilson Funeral Home (5301 Albemarle Rd, Charlotte, NC 28212) on Friday August 27th from 6:00pm - 8:00pm. Masks will be required, and we strongly prefer that those who attend are vaccinated. We appreciate this gesture as a show of respect for everyone's health. A private graveside service will be held on Saturday morning, which will be reserved for close family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of their choice.
