Jimmie Kelly Haile was born on Christmas Day 1928. A pretty special guy who grew up to enjoy a long and well lived life.
As a member of the Greatest Generation, Jim always showed true grit in the face of adversity, he served his country in times of war as a Marine, and in peacetime he served as fireman/rescuer, as a lifeguard and he taught children and soldiers how to swim, and was a scout leader for many years. Always current on news his career in newspaper production in San Antonio, Denver and Houston fueled his remarkable memory. Jim's Christian faith sustained him and guided his fellowship with friends and community.
He embraced each day and loved life and nature; the Rocky Mountains and Alaskan bush were favorite places on earth, piloting aircraft in the skies was his first love and a life long passion. Two expressions describe Jim perfectly - he had a "joie de vie" or love of life and "bonhomie" or civility that endeared him to all he met in his 93 years.
His greatest joy was teaching his children, Ryan, Brad, Joan and Leslie how to travel and explore the world around us - whether hiking the Continental Divide, skiing lakes or slopes, introducing survival skills of hunting, fishing, compass or telescope mapping, or just making camp, be it in a tent, cabin, or camper. He was a beloved and wise father.
His labor was rewarded as all of his children, and seven grand children share his interest in travel and nature.
He is gifted with eight great grands that will surely continue his legacy.
