Jill (Hill) Becquet, 80, passed away on Monday, Aug 27th, 2021, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born to Eugene and Ruth Gifford Hill on Nov 16th, 1940, in Amarillo, Texas. Jill graduated from Tascosa High School in 1959.
Jill met her future husband George Becquet at Sam Houston Junior High Amarillo, Texas. They remained sweethearts throughout their High School years. George enlisted in the US Army, they married Feb 10th, 1960, in Stratford, Texas. Jill was an understanding and supportive wife throughout numerous military assignments and separations. They raised three children, Vincent Paul Becquet, Laura Lynn Becquet and Eugene Blaze Becquet.
Jill was very artistic throughout her life and had been active in making hand-built and wheel-thrown stoneware and porcelain pottery for 41 years, began pottery at the military craft shop in 1973, studied the technique of Japanese Sumi-E brush painting on rice paper while in Japan in 1978, and studied art and advanced ceramics at San Antonio College. Her application of Sumi-E brush painting to porcelain and white stoneware was unique and rare. Scenic reflections of time spent in Arizona are depicted in her Southwest Landscape pottery. Over the years, she self-developed a unique style used in her combination of wheel thrown and hand-built coil vases. In 1981 she set up a studio and built a gas-fired kiln. She sold her pottery at art and craft shows throughout Texas. She also taught pottery art at the Randolph Air Force Craft Shop and was a member and past president of the Randolph Art League in addition to being an active life member and past president of the San Antonio River art Group.
Jill was preceded in death by her sons Vincent Paul Becquet and Air Force MSG Eugene B. Becquet and her parents, Eugene and Ruth (Gifford) Hill.
