Jewel Dean Posey died November 8, 2020 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. She was 84.
A native of Meridian and born February 8, 1936, she was the daughter of the late J. B. and Ethel Dukes Stokes. She was a 1954 graduate of Meridian High School. Mrs. Posey began her long career in banking with AmSouth Bank and ultimately retired from Deposit Guaranty with 30 years of dedicated service. Mrs. Posey was recognized as a leader in the banking collections division having won numerous awards.
Jewel was a devoted wife and mother with endless dedication to her family. With a heart of gold, she nurtured and adored her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was an avid sports fan who taught her children how to play ball and always supported and attended her grandchildren's baseball games and other activities. She was a devoted fan to the Ole Miss Rebels and Atlanta Braves. Jewel lived by example, never saying a harsh word regarding others and always loyal and compassionate. Her family will remember her love of hummingbirds, family, and her faith. She had attended Woodville Heights Baptist Church, Van Winkle Baptist Church, and most recently Country Woods Baptist Church for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, James Roy Posey; son, Perry Glenn Posey; and her brother, David Stokes.
She is survived by her daughter, Joy Posey (Tammy), of Byram; sons, Phil Posey (Terri), of Ridgeland; Michael A. Posey (Sharon), of Jackson; and Randy Posey (Kay), of Flowood; sister, Jonnie Dale Riddle (Gary), of Meridian; sisters-in-law, Wanda Sullivan (Warren), Lynda Song, and Phyllis Posey; grandchildren: Dusty Posey (Katie), Dylan Posey (Sara), Christopher Posey (Ashley), Anna Posey Taylor (Carey), Austin Posey, and Josh Posey; great grandchildren: Shepard Posey, Cayden Posey, Cambree Jewel Posey, twins Reese and Savannah Posey, and Dawson James Posey; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Rosemont Gardens Memorial Park, 3935 I-55 South Frontage Road in Jackson, the Rev. Gary Hampton officiating.
