Jessie Marie (Sutton) Summerfield, 86, of Rawlings, Maryland passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at her home in Rawlings.
Mrs. Summerfield was preceded in death by her parents, William Sutton and Armeda B. (Miller) Sutton, her loving husband David W. Summerfield, son Phillip K. Summerfield, daughter-in-law Rhonda E. (Robinette) Summerfield, and siblings Wellington J. Sutton, Bertha J. (Sutton) Williams, George W. Sutton, Elizabeth L. (Sutton) Hicks, Evelyn V. Sutton, Anna Louise Sutton, Franklin G. Sutton, and Leonard M. Sutton.
She is survived by her sister Rose (Sutton) Dulaney of Pickens, WV; sister-in-law Hannah M. (Toms) Sutton of Nutter Fort, WV; sister-in-law Gloria (Summerfield) Schlosser; close friend Kris Moore of Galipolis, OH; son Richard D. Summerfield and wife Valentina of Saint Johns, FL; son-in-law Rev. Dr. Jon M. Walton of Wilmington, DE; son James B. Summerfield and wife Linda of Rawlings; Daughter Lorraine Summerfield Harbison and husband Dan of Kennett Square, PA; and son Robin Summerfield and wife Paula of Cumberland, MD. She treasured her grandchildren - Rusty, Erik and wife Cristina, Andrew, Julie, Max, Xheson, Moss, Xhulian, and Madeleine - and great-grandchildren - Summer, Stella, Cyril, and Rene - and many dear cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Mrs. Summerfield was born on January 17, 1933 in Helvetia, WV and graduated from Pickens High School. She attended Davis and Elkins College and served in the United States Air Force. She was employed for more than twenty years as a Nursing Assistant at Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland. Jessie Marie and David owned and operated Summerfield Aviation, an FAA-Approved Pilot School, Air Charter, and Aerial Photography Service, at the Cumberland Regional Airport. They both took great pride in the quality of the pilots working in Europe and the United States who are graduates of the school. She was a member of Grace Bible Fellowship in Short Gap, WV and enjoyed bowling and golf. Her greatest passions were her family and working on her lawn and garden.
The family would like to express appreciation to the staff and volunteers of WMHS Hospice and to Pharmacare for their care and compassion.
Friends are invited to visit with the family at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown, MD on Saturday, November 2, 2019 beginning at noon. A celebration of life will be held at the funeral home beginning at 2:30 pm followed by internment at Biertown Cemetery, Rawlings.
