Mrs. Jessie Belle Scoggins Gribble, age 95, of Rome, GA, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2022, in a local assisted living center.
Mrs. Gribble was born at home on August 18, 1926, in the Flint Hill Community, daughter of the late Grover M. Scoggins and the late Lydia Kerzelle Chafin Scoggins. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Raleigh Maron Gribble, by her son, Charles Maron Gribble, by her daughter's first husband, Mike Hopper, and by her brother, Robert Scoggins.
She was an excellent academic student and basketball player at McHenry High School. After graduating, she began working at Pepperell Mills during World War II. A year after the war was over, Jessie married Raleigh, who had been serving in the military at Pearl Harbor when the war broke out. Raleigh and Jessie had three wonderful children of whom they were proud. As the kids got older, Jessie became a licensed beautician, and the family added a beauty shop at their home. Jessie worked until her late 70's before retiring.
Jessie enjoyed the friendship of her customers and fellow church members at West Rome Baptist Church, where she was a longtime member. She deeply loved her family. She loved traveling and went to Japan to see her son, Mike, while he was in service there during the Vietnam War and was able to go to the Holy Lands with Charles, as well as many places in the United States with her husband and friends. She loved shopping with her daughter in the Rome and Atlanta areas. There was not anything she would not do for her family. Mrs. Gribble was very smart, hardworking, honest, and friendly during her life.
