Jessie Mae Dowdy, 97, of Tyler, peacefully entered the Kingdom of Heaven on May 31, 2020.
Ms. Dowdy was born February 28, 1923 to her mother, Gertie Scates Childress and father, Jesse Childress in Troup, TX. Ms. Dowdy devoted her life to caring for her home and family, where she was always viewed as a safe haven. Those who had the blessing of knowing and loving Ms. Dowdy will remember her quick-witted sense of humor, her relentless outpouring of love and wisdom for everyone surrounding her, and her unwavering, steadfast faith in the Lord despite life's many adversities.
Jessie Mae, as she was favorably known, was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond Dowdy; son, Larry Mack Dowdy; brother, Flint Childress; grandson, Kevin Dowdy; sisters-in-law, Vaudie Brown Dowdy and Mary Ellen Cooper.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Dowdy, wife Shirley; daughter, Carolyn Cowan, husband Denny; daughter-in-law, Nancy Dowdy; and grandchildren, Keith Dowdy; Cheryl Rodgers; Shayne Cowan, wife Traci; Cammie Cowan, fiance Randy Shelton; Julie Tripp; Darla Graham, husband Lewis; Chris Dowdy, wife Tessa. She is also survived by fourteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Chris Dowdy; Chase, Chance, Chandler Wood; Reid and Ridge Graham.
Services will be held at Lloyd James Funeral Home in Tyler on Thursday, June 4, 2020. Visitation is at 1:00 PM and the service, officiated by Pastor Doug Anderson, at 2:00 PM. A private family graveside burial will follow at Tyler Memorial Cemetery.
