Jessie was born on February 21, 1917 in Burkittsville, she was the daughter of Edgar and Lizzie Mae McGaha and one of ten children. She graduated to attend middle school and high school in Middletown where she was active in the social and sports life...a senior letter-woman on the high school basketball team. She married Milburn Ahalt after he returned from Army service in WWII Europe. They were soon joined by 2 children, Larry and Kay. Jessie and Milburn were active in St Paul's Lutheran Church where they fully participated in the church life of mother-daughter banquets, Christmas and Easter events, Fall church dinners, and fundraising events.
Jessie's home life was rich and complicated as Milburn became an engineer for the B&O Railroad. She and Milburn later got into camping life on the Potomac River most summer weekends where their children could learn how to fish and ski. After a serious bout of cancer in 2000, Jessie and Milburn moved to Country Meadows Retirement Community. Jessie retired from cooking and enjoyed the active life with many new friends, bingo, and community living.
