Jessica S. Johnston
Help us celebrate Jessica! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Jessica.
Jessica S. Johnson died quietly at home on June 8, 2022 with her mother by her side. Originally born Jeffrey in New Kensington, PA on July 15, 1955, later in life Jessica followed her heart's passion to transgender to Jessica, a decision that was embraced with love and support by her family and friends.
Jessica was married for 32 years to Mary Della (Petroff) Johnston who predeceased her. They made their home in Grafton where they devotedly relished the company of their canines. They enjoyed frequenting flea markets and spending time at casinos in Connecticut. Jessica was a topnotch State-certified welder. She worked at Freudenberg in Bristol, NH for 23 years and was currently working at Dartmouth Printing of Hanover NH until the time of her illness. She loved all things mechanical and worked on many buildings and equipment in the Upper Valley. For many, she was the go-to person in Grafton.
Besides her wife, Jessica was predeceased by her father Samuel Burford and sister Jennifer Schulthies. She is survived by her mother, Louann (Mullica) Burford, niece Samantha Gatti and husband Michael, and nephew Brandon Murray and wife Corrine. She will greatly missed by her friends at Renaissance of New England, especially Jill, Lila, Melissa, and Sabrina, who were all part of her circle of love, support, and recreation.
The family would like to thank the compassionate assistance from Bayada Hospice. Our deep appreciation is extended to Jessica's friend and neighbor, Debbie Clough, who championed Jessica during her transgender transition and for staying by Jessica's side during her illness and passing.
A wake for Jessica will be held on Thursday, June 16 from 5-7:00 p.m. at Ricker Funeral Home, NH Rte 4, Enfield, NH.
