Jerry G. Worley went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 22, 2022. He was born June 24, 1944 to the late W.E. and Kittie Worley.
Jerry was one of the boys from Beech Street in Morristown, TN. He attended Morristown High School, where he met his lifelong love and wife, Phyllis Worley. She would journey with Jerry for all of his adult life. After graduating from Carson-Newman in 1966, Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He would serve for four and a half years as a radar control officer, as he liked to say. He considered it one of his highest honors serving as part of NORAD. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain.
He returned home to Morristown, TN where he would work at Berkline as a credit manager. His time back in Morristown saw him serve in many community organizations. He cherished his time as a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church serving as teacher, Deacon, and many other roles.
Jerry and his family moved to North Carolina in 1989 to start a new adventure in life. He worked for Century Furniture in Hickory, NC. While in Hickory, Jerry and his family became members of Viewmont Baptist Church. Again, Jerry served as a teacher, Deacon, and many other roles. Jerry and Phyllis would only be in Hickory for a decade before heading for the Carolina Coast. When they arrived in Wilmington in 1999, Jerry began a new career path. He served at St. Andrews Covenant Presbyterian Church as Business Administrator for the next eighteen years. He would join the First Baptist Church in Wilmington and again teach and serve in many roles. At this time, he felt the call to serve as a minister. He would be ordained into ministry in 2008. He then would fill the pulpit of many small Baptist churches in the Wilmington area.
In 2010, Currie Community Church of Currie, NC would call him as their Pastor. Jerry would serve the folks of that community for twelve years. Jerry's faith would guide and direct him throughout his life. He always treated people with kindness and mercy.
Jerry was preceded in death by daughter, Margo Rochelle Worley, and grandson, Joshua Addison Worley. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Phyllis Worley; son, William Worley (Denise) of Mount Olive, NC; grandchildren, Ashlea Worley and Adam Bowman of Hickory, NC, Whitney Coffey of Connelly Springs, NC; Matthew, Faith and Deacon Worley of Mount Olive, NC; and great-grandchildren, Abram, Asher, Silas, and Addison.
Arrangements are being handled by Andrews Mortuary and Crematory. There will be no memorial service or graveside at this time.
