Jerry M. Russell, 78, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 12:38 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2022.
Jerry entered life November 14, 1943, in Livonia, Indiana, the son of the late Jason Valentine and Hazel Lorena Maudlin Russell. On October 18, 1969, Jerry married Dixie A. Dunham; she survives.
Jerry was an engineer at Cummins Engine Company retiring in 1997 after 35 years of service. After his Cummins career, Jerry was employed at Tech Com in Indianapolis retiring again after 15 years of service. Jerry also owned JR Trucking for many years.
Jerry attended and supported Columbus Baptist Church. He had a passion for motorcycles, sprint car racing, and guitars. He had a huge heart for the outdoors, and he enjoyed traveling and exploring the United States.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Dixie; daughters, Niccole (Jason) Knight of Greenwood and Natalie (Carlos) Laverty of Columbus; three granddaughters, Jayna, Leanna and Sarah; sister, Olive Routh of Salem, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Jason and Hazel Russell; and infant brother, George Russell; and his brother, John Russell.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2022, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; Pastor Charles Kennedy will officiate. A live stream of the funeral service can be seen at barkesweaverglick.com.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 2-5 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Jerry will be laid to rest in Section 86 at the Garland Brook Cemetery.
