In loving memory of my father, Jerry Eugene Holland, who peacefully passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2024, after a short illness at the age of 87. He was the devoted husband of his wife, Sandra Kay Baxter Holland (deceased) and loving father of Paula Renee Holland and Royce Franklin Holland (deceased), grandfather of William Del Tubbs, and uncle and mentor to his nephew, Keith Baxter and his wife, Julie Baxter. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Born in Athens, Texas to Richard and Rena Holland, Jerry was an active, enthusiastic boy who loved being outdoors. As the youngest of seven children growing up on a farm, he knew the importance of hard work, and he did his best to instill that same work ethic in us. He was a man of faith and he taught us the importance of family, hard work and doing what is right.
Jerry spent most of his life working outdoors, which he loved more than anything. After graduating from Texas Tech University, he spent his career doing hybrid grain research for Dekalb and Monsanto, and then ran a mowing service for many years during his retirement. He also loved walking outside and was regularly seen around town by those in his community up until the Fall of 2023.
One of the kindest souls on this planet, Jerry was a gentle, giving man who worked tirelessly to ensure that his family had everything they needed. He faced every challenge in life with admirable strength and courage and was always steadfast in his love of family.
His memorial service will be held at the East Texas Arboretum's Woman's Building on Saturday March 30, 2024 at 1 pm.
