Jerrol Lofton Hamilton, 79, passed away on March 10, 2021, in Columbus, MS.
Mr. Hamilton was born in Vardaman, MS to Baylas and Josie Russell Hamilton on May 4, 1941. He graduated from Vardaman High School. He picked cotton for money during his youth. He was proud that his parents let him keep the money he made even during hard times. After graduation, he joined the United States Army Reserve. He always told how he would take others' KP duty so he could earn money. He was a business man from early on. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved travelling around the U.S., especially out West. He met Bobbi Munn in Clarksdale, MS. They married April 8, 1966. Their daughter, Nancy Michelle Hamilton, was born July 11, 1968.
He had a variety of memberships and awards.
He was the owner of Tri-State Termite and Pest Control for over 50 years.
Jerrol worked with the Chamber of Commerce to bring many businesses to Clarksdale, MS. He loved Clarksdale and worked hard to bring good to the area. He donated buildings to the city to bring the Depot area to life where people now flock to visit Clarksdale in search of the Blues experience. The greatest loves of his life were his grandchildren, Jeremy Daniel Byrd (Jerb, the nickname Jerrol gave him because his own grandfather had called him that as well), and Mary Kathryn Byrd Thrash (Papa's China Girl). He was his daughter's and grandchildren's greatest playmate in childhood. He was a mighty force that leaves a huge void in his family and friends' lives. He was known for his humor, adventurousness, generosity, strong work ethic, honesty, and loyal friendship.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Baylas and Josephine Russell Hamilton; father-in-law, Mitchell Munn; his brothers James Russell Hamilton, John Thomas "Jake" Hamilton, Ray Anderson Hamilton and Cecil Ray Vaughan; nephews, Grant Edington Hamilton and David Glenn Vaughan. We are comforted knowing that these loved ones along with countless more family and friends met to welcome him to heaven.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Frances Munn Hamilton "Bobbi"; his daughter Nancy Michelle Hamilton Little (Steve); his grandson Jeremy Daniel Byrd (Sydney); his granddaughter Mary Kathryn Thrash (Matthew) and his namesake great-grandson, Lofton Charles Thrash. He was always excited to hear that Lofton had his name. He was so proud and thankful. He is survived by his sister Nancy Jo Hamilton Vaughan, his brother Kenneth Earl Hamilton (Kathy); and mother-in-law, Frances Munn Blanton. He is also survived by sisters-in -law Ruth Hamilton and Juanita Hamilton ; nephews and nieces Cecil Vaughan, Jr, Chris Hamilton, Jeff Shankle, Todd Hamilton, Tim Vaughan, Susan Hamilton Mahaffey, Trent Hamilton and Haley Hamilton Bollinger, additional granddaughters that he welcomed with open arms, Chelsea Little Curtis(Jacob) and Kelsi Little.
