Jennie Lee Burns Tinkler, 87, of Robert Lee, passed away peacefully Monday, February 28, 2022. Jennie was the daughter of W. E. Burns and Myrtle Clark Burns. Most of Jennie Lee's life was spent on the Burns Ranch in Coke County.
Jennie married Roy Tinkler on January 2, 1954. They were married for 66 years until Roy's death in 2020. Jennie Lee and Roy had four children and they raised their family on the ranch, and this brought much joy to Jennie's life. She delighted in another generation being raised on the ranch. She loved the land and she and Roy were good stewards of it.
The heart of the Tinkler household was Jennie Lee and her kitchen. She always made sure there was plenty to eat and was happy to add an extra chair to the table if company showed up. Her heart was fullest when there was a house full of family and friends to do for. She was a great hostess, making sure everyone was comfortable and well fed. She loved to prepare food for her church and the Robert Lee community she loved so much. Jennie Lee had a true servant's heart, loving to serve others. She was what God intended a wife and mother to be, a help mate to Roy, the keeper of the home and nurturer of her four children.
Jennie loved playing cards and games. Many hours of family fun were spent at the game table. Jennie was not a big talker; she left that to Roy, but she was witty and fun loving. Many great family memories were made at the game table. Her pleasure in card playing continued right up to her death. She was always up for one more game of Canasta.
Jennie and Roy were attentive loving parents, very involved throughout their children's school years, following, and supporting them in all extracurricular activities, including stock shows and sporting events. Their love of sports took them to many football, basketball, and soccer games as well as car races and dance recitals. Their enjoyment in these activities continued through their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and extended family. Additionally, both Jennie Lee and Roy were supporters of all Robert Lee athletes.
Jennie was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Tinkler, parents W. E. and Myrtle Burns, brother Paul Burns and grandson Matthew Tinkler. She is survived by sons Walter Tinkler and Clark Tinkler (Noel) of Robert Lee and daughters Jeania Tinkler Lewis (Randy) of Midland and Dianna Tinkler (John Wepryk) of Austin. She is also survived by grandchildren Jennifer, April, W. E. Tinkler (Kristina), Randy (Ran) Lewis II (Samantha) and Karel Tinkler. Great grandchildren Shayden, Breydin, Brantlee and Kynzli Tinkler, Witten and Welker Lewis and Ryleigh, Carson and Calvin Tinkler. Other survivors include a niece and four nephews, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews, and sisters-in-law, Polly Large and Stella Tinkler.
The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to Barbara Carr, Deborah Hosier, and Francise Forcey of Austin, Texas for the love and care they gave our beloved Mother.
