Jennie Grohowski was born September 27, 1927, to Polish immigrants, Joseph and Alice Grohowski. Jennie was the seventh of eight children, brought up with her five brothers, Joseph, Stanley, Sylvester, Chester, John, and her two sisters, Stella and Dorothy.
The depression years formed her values and traditions that she held for the rest of her life and passed them onto her children.
Jennie helped care for the family farm as she watched her brothers go off to war. While they were away, she instilled in herself a strong ideal of patriotism.
Jennie graduated from New Carlisle High School in 1947. Shortly after graduating, she started working for Empire Box and was introduced to the love of her life, Stanley Orlicki in the early 1950's by her brother Joseph.
While courting, they spent many countless evenings at St. Casimir's, German Club, and St. Adalbert's Hall, to the sweet sound of polkas. They were married on September 25, 1954 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church in Terre Coupee, Indiana.
The happy couple drove their Desoto to Mexico to enjoy their honeymoon. After returning home, they lived in an apartment on the West Side of South Bend. Shortly after, they started a family.
They were parents to four children, Diane, Joan, Michael, and Karen. All the values of their lives were instilled in their children. 1n 1986, the passing of Stanley made her even more determined to live life to the fullest.
Jennie became a loving grandmother (Busia) to three grandchildren, Kelli, Adam and Owen. She also had a son-in-law, Scott (Scottie).
Jennie found with honor in family traditions. Her Polish Heritage and hard work ethic impacted the rest of her life as she was active and vibrant into her 90's when she went to heaven, to be reunited with her husband at the age of 93.
She loved simplicity, family traditions, her Catholic Faith, cooking, Notre Dame sports, her home and yard, and the beauty of the changing seasons.
To her family, she is an irreplaceable diamond to forever be missed.
Jennie Orlicki peacefully passed away Tuesday morning, March 2, 2021.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2021, in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. A visitation will take place from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana, where a rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m.
