Jennie Bicoules Fanos of the Villages, Florida, formerly of Fitchburg, MA, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on October 9, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.
Born and raised in Fitchburg, she was the daughter of the late Fred H. Bicoules and Paraskevi (Bokis) Bicoules. In 1945 she graduated from Fitchburg High School and was a life-long member of the Alumni Association. After graduation she was employed by Burbank Hospital as secretary to the Director of Nursing. Following that position she worked at City Hall as secretary to the Superintendent of Buildings. Jennie later worked as a medical secretary to Dr. Herman L. Block for eleven years until his retirement and as a medical secretary to Dr. Richard Cornell for fourteen years.
She married Michael G. Fanos of Nashua, NH in 1946. They had a caring and loving life together for 48 years until he passed away in 1995.
Jennie was an avid reader, loved dancing, music, and working on special needlepoint pieces, along with being a loyal New England sports fan. "Jay" was a life-long communicant of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Fitchburg and a member of its former Ladies Hope Society.
Jen found true happiness in the company of her family. She is survived by her daughters Constance Cokkinias, Catherine Economou and her husband Stephen, Christine Fanos with whom she made her home. She is also survived by her grandson Stephen A. Cokkinias, his wife Mimie, and their three children. She also leaves a godchild and cousins, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, very special friends, and her favorite dog Bailey.
Jen was predeceased by her siblings, Katherine Bicoules, Diamond Angelopoulos and Chris Bicoules.
Jennie was very grateful and frequently overwhelmed by the kind and compassionate thoughtfulness shown her by her LaBelle Village friends. She will be missed dearly for her selflessness, her humble actions, and her love without expectations.
Due to the current health safety restrictions, a private funeral service was held in Florida followed by a private burial in Fitchburg. Memorial donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1319 Main St., Fitchburg, MA 01420 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
