Jeanette "Jan" M. Schreiner passed away peacefully on March 4, 2022 at the age 97. She grew up an only child on a farm near Remington, Indiana and after high school went to nursing school in Indianapolis. There she met an intern who would be her future husband, John E. Schreiner. M.D.s were called up for WWII, and Jack was assigned to the Air Force in Spokane, Washington. After the war, they settled in Bremen, where Jack started his private practice of family medicine. The initial years were tough and a live chicken or dandelion wine were welcome in return for services. Over 38 years, Jack's practice did well, and he retired in 1986. They spent their retirement traveling. They both enjoyed Elder Hostels, meeting new people, and learning about new places and things to see. Jack passed away in 1994. Jan's devout Catholic faith gave her strength to increase her activities. She played the organ at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Bremen, volunteered at Bremen Community Hospital, and was active in the Hospital Auxiliary. Jan also taught English-to-Spanish from home, provided Meals on Wheels, and volunteered for the Red Cross blood drives and Hospice along with her many hobbies. Jan was honored by the Red Cross for her 50 years of service and also by Michiana 55 Plus for her volunteer efforts. Jan was a wonderful, loving mother, and she was an amazing cook. Her three kids especially loved her award winning pies. She is survived by her children, Charlie (Lisa) in Michigan, Barb in California, and Mike in Washington State, and Grandchildren, Charla (Scott) in Illinois, Dylan, Emerson, Eliot, and Thomas in Michigan, and Great-Grandchildren, Kaylin and Sean in Illinois. A memorial service will take place later in the year. Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 St Rd 331, Bremen is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions, in her name, can be made to the Community Hospital of Bremen, 1020 High Rd., Bremen, IN 46506. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mishlerfuneralhomes.com
