Harrisburg, PA - F. Jeanne Royer Koons, 90, of Harrisburg, PA, died of cancer on August 22, 2019 at the home of her niece, Mary Beth Dempsey, Oldtown, Maryland.
She was born February 6, 1929 in Sabillasville, MD, to the late Samuel T. Royer and Martha G. (Pryor) Royer. She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Calvin H. Koons, son Calvin R. "Kelly" Koons both of Harrisburg, PA, and siblings Eva Baker, Samuel Royer, Mary Jane Sipel, Leah Clauss, Ruth Miller, Gladys Layson, Lillian Dunlap, Martha Weigle, Paul Royer, Etta Trumbly, Rubyanna Flynn, John Royer, and Marjorie Rosenberry. She is survived by brother, Joseph F. Royer of Thurmont, MD, sister-in-law, Mrs. John Royer (Dorothy) of Oldtown, and half-sister, Ann High of Camp Hill, PA.
Jeanne was born and raised on the family farm in Sabillasville, graduating Thurmont, MD High School Class of 1946. She retired after a long career with Bell Telephone of PA where she worked during the 1950s and 60s in the engineering department drafting, planning, and sometimes even climbing poles. Jeanne enjoyed writing poetry, crafting, traveling, walking on the beach collecting seashells; she liked her soup hot and, lately, watching the sunrise over the mountains from the Royer farm porch. She was a member of the Church of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Harrisburg, PA.
Belonging to a sprawling, yet close, family, Jeanne will be remembered by several generations of nieces and nephews. She was particularly close to her (late) brother John and sister-in-law Dorothy Royer's children, Mary Beth Dempsey of Oldtown, Diane Norris of Norcross, GA, Debbie Bowling of Roanoke, VA and Robert Royer of Hagerstown, MD, who graciously welcomed her into their care after the untimely death of Jeanne's only son, Kelly, last year. She will be fondly remembered by her special friend Dylis Lyter of Harrisburg.
