Jeanne Evins Jones, age 91, joined her Lord and Saviour Jesus on January 13, 2021 at home, surrounded by family.
She was born September 6, 1929 in San Antonino, Texas to T. Fred and Anna Roe (Zoe) Mitchell Evins, the youngest of seven children. She attended schools in the San Antonio and Hot Wells area until she was 14 when she moved with her parents to Edinburg, Texas. She attended Edinburg High School, where she was a bugler for the then Drum & Bugle Corp of the Red & Blue Sergeanettes. She graduated from EHS in May 1947 and married the handsome soldier she had met a few years earlier, Joe Mac Jones, on June 28, 1947. They made their home in Edinburg where Jeanne was involved with their church, First Baptist, and the Edinburg Junior Service League. She graduated cum laude with a B.A. (History & English) from Pan American University (now UT-RGV) in August 1973 and started her teaching career with ECISD the next day. In 1979, she and Joe Mac moved to Buda, Texas and she continued her teaching career with Hays CISD. She loved her students and treated them as her very own.
Jeanne was an excellent cook and baker?her pies raised top money for the youth fundraisers at Hays Hills Baptist Church. Her cobblers at family reunions were legendary.
She loved her Lord and faithfully served in the churches she belonged to, whether teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, serving on committees, providing altar arrangements and decorating the church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her six siblings, and her son, Timothy Charles. She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Joe Mac Jones, her son John Michael (Sonora) and her daughter Marilyn Jeanne, 3 granddaughters, 1 grandson, 1 great granddaughter, and her other children, Craig & Connie Teykl and family, John and Angela Giberson and family, John & Cary Kimbro and family, the many who called her "Nana" and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in the spring, Jeanne's favorite time of the year.
