Born September 28, 1929 in Chicago, IL, Jeanne peacefully passed away September 19, 2020 in the presence of her loving family after a brief illness.
Jeanne attended Public school in Chicago, graduating from Jones Commercial High School in 1947, before attending Northwestern University on a Journalism scholarship. On December 28, 1953, she married the love of her life, Fred Sawyer. The family lived in Maryland, Florida, and New Jersey before settling in the Brookhaven area of Farmers Branch, TX during 1973.
Jeanne is a past member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dallas and Brookhaven Country Club. During the past 35 years, Jeanne has been an active member of Faith United Presbyterian Church, Farmers Branch, the Farmers Branch Women's Club, and an active supporter of the Farmers Branch Historical Park and the Firehouse Theatre. She has spent many hours doing Volunteer jobs at North Dallas Shared Ministries, the Farmers Branch Senior Center, and Metrocrest Services. She leaves a wonderful, inspiring legacy of service to others.
Jeanne has always loved and enjoyed her family and many friends. Her "spare time" interests included travel, golf, bridge, board games, cross stitch embroidery, and following the Texas Rangers and Dallas Mavericks.
Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents, James and Dorothy Stepan, her brother, James Stepan, and her loving husband of 52 years, Fred Sawyer.
She is survived by her sister, Nancy Stutzman and husband Byron, of Boston, MA, sister-in-law Nancy Stepan of Tucson, AZ, son Jim and wife Kathy of Center, TX, son Bob and wife Karen of Park City, UT, daughter Nancy Fox and husband Wade of Shelbyville, TX, Grandchildren Anne Sawyer Marsh and husband Eric of Spring, TX, Vilous Fox of Leadville, CO, Nicole Fox Robinson and husband Dusty of Shelbyville, TX, and Jeff Sawyer of Bend, OR, Great grandchildren Connor, Tucker, Sawyer, Amos, and Gus.
The family wishes to thank the gracious, heroic caregivers at Brookdale Senior Living Center, Farmers Branch, TX, Pine Grove Nursing Center, Center, TX, and Affinity Hospice, Center, TX, all having provided exceptional loving care to Jeanne and our family.
In accordance with her wishes, Jeanne's body has been donated to the Willed Body Program at UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, TX.
Memorial donations may be made to the Charity of your choice. The family intends to hold a Memorial Celebration of Jeanne's life at Faith United Presbyterian Church, Farmers Branch during 2021.
