Jeanette Moretti, 93, a New Britain native, lifelong resident and cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. She was known for her devotion to family, dynamic personality, professional accomplishments, and volunteer work. Jeanette is a graduate of New Britain High School and graduated cum laude from Bryant College, now Bryant University in Smithfield, RI, with a degree in business administration. She held several positions with the State of Connecticut, including working at the State Capital during legislative sessions. She served as a secretary to the Commission of Higher Education, the Legal Counsel, and as an administrative aide for the 1965 Constitutional Convention. Jeanette's impressive career went on to include her 37-year tenure at Burritt Mutual Savings Bank in downtown New Britain. She began as a secretary in the mortgage department and steadily advanced through various roles, including Executive Secretary to the President, Main Office Manager, Assistant Vice President, and Director of Public Relations. She initiated numerous charitable programs and public events, earning the respect and regard of the bank's clientele. Jeanette also represented the bank on several boards, including the YWCA, YMCA, and New Britain General Hospital Auxiliary, where she served as treasurer for a number of years. Jeanette embraced the spirit of service and made valuable contributions to the community. Even in retirement, her commitment to making a difference remained unwavering. In 1994, she served as a City Council member and Assistant Majority Leader for two years. Her dedication was recognized when she was honored with an achievement award from the Columbian Federation. In 2004, she was a mayoral appointee on the city's Ethics Commission. Additionally, Jeanette was Director of the Visiting Nurse Association, a member of the League of Women Voters, Lion's Club, Order of Sons of Italy, and American-Italian Democrats. She also served as a member of the Advisory Council of the Siena Learning Center and volunteered as an English tutor. Jeanette's passing leaves a void in the lives of those who knew her. She will be remembered as a kind-hearted individual, respected community leader, and family matriarch. At home, Jeanette was an amazing cook, adding her own special touch to favorite holiday dishes and hosting her extended family with delicious multi-course meals. She exuded classic elegance and a flair for fashion in everything from her choice in clothing to her taste in jewelry and home d?cor. Even her homemade birthday cakes were special and beautiful to look at. Jeanette was charming and warm, making the people around her feel heard and valued. Her old-fashioned values and expectations for excellence made everyone stand a little taller, work harder, and thrive. Jeanette was predeceased by her husband Anthony (Tony) Moretti, also a Bryant College alum. Together, Tony and Jeanette, built their dream home in the city's West End, where Jeanette resided since 1955. She was also predeceased by her parents Domenica and Arnaldo Silverio, her sisters Ada and Ida, and her three brothers Armando, Silvio (and wife Stella), and Renaldo (and wife Jean). She is survived by her daughter Lori Moretti of Braintree, MA, her son Anthony Moretti and his wife Louise of Glastonbury, CT, her three grandsons Anthony Moretti and his wife Alyssa, Nicholas Moretti, and Michael Caglianone, and her beloved great-granddaughter Nicole Moretti as well as several cherished nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great- nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 29, 2024 at 10:30am at St. Ann's Church, 47 Clark Street, New Britain, CT. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private.
