Heaven received a good one today.
Jean Hoff passed on August 11, 2021 at the age of 99. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. She was sleeping peacefully at her assisted living residence on Mercer Island WA. She leaves behind her daughters Kathy (John) Willson and Nancy Steiner, grandsons John Steiner and Matt (Julia) Steiner as well as great grandchildren, Easton and Kennedy.
Born in Wenatchee, WA September 28, 1921 to George and Anna McClelland, she was the youngest of seven. She witnessed many incredible changes in her family, friends, and world during that century.
At Edmonds High School she met her love, Frank, and they married Oct 15, 1943 yet he soon shipped out with the merchant marines to supply our troops during WWII.
Soon two daughters came along and Jean became a devoted mother and wife. The family lived and worked in Everett, WA for a while then built a home in Alderwood Manor where they lived for many years.
Christian faith was the center of Jean's life, always instilling love and strong values in her family. She worked outside the home after her girls started school as an executive assistant in sales at the Nord Door Co in Everett for 20+ years.
There were constant adventures and although she was not so keen on all the outdoor activities she was always present to observe and to bring food. Frank was the "sports guy" so his girls were too.
She enjoyed great outings and dinners with friends. Jean and Frank travelled often in their motor home in retirement. She loved her church, music, singing, knitting, jeopardy, wheel of fortune, conversing, and all types of games. But, she liked to win those games and if anyone (even as a joke) slipped in any deviation to the rules she was not happy.
Eventually they moved near family on Whidbey Island. They enjoyed its beauty and comfort in their own home for several years. During these years she and Frank watched lots of football (Huskies, Seahawks) and baseball (Mariners) but also never missed a football game of their grandsons throughout their high school and college years.
Jean's husband, Frank, of 71 years, passed into God's hands 6 years ago so she moved to assisted living near her daughter(Kathy) and beloved son in law(John) on Mercer Island. She became accustomed to the new surroundings and loved her caregivers. They became her "family" during last year's lockdown where even her daughters could not visit. After vaccines we had a great reunion.
Although Jean's health had declined over the past couple years she remained alert until her last few weeks. She always had a smile and that's what all her caregivers loved so much. She rarely complained (except when she could not figure out why the good Lord kept her on this earth for so long). Her smile cheered others and all of us until the day she passed.
"The light of one so dear will never be forgotten."
Thank you mom for all you did for us. We thank God every day for you. You gave your heart and time-we have a responsibility to carry on.
Both our mom and dad left "footprints" on our hearts-they walk beside us, "always near, still loved, still missed" -and we find comfort by our memories.
You have earned eternal rest.
In memory of our mom please hug those you love and always spread smiles throughout your families and communities? both are contagious.
