HARRISON, Jean Duncan, 87, of Cartersville, Va., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 26, 2023. Jean was born on February 23, 1936 in Cumberland County, Va. She graduated from Cumberland High School, married her high school sweetheart, Tucker Harrison, and raised their three children at Morningside Farm, Cartersville, Va. After their last child left for college, Jean joined the workforce where she served the farmers of her county through the USDA-ASCS. She had a passion for historic preservation, devoting much of her time to the restoration of the family's 1857 house as well as the research of family and local history. She was a charter member of the Cumberland County Historical Society, served on the County's Sesqui-Bicentennial Committee and was an active member of the
Cartersville Garden Club. Jean was a life-long member of Oakwood United Methodist Church, which her Grandfather was instrumental in starting. She continued her family's legacy of service to the church and held many positions. She especially enjoyed working on the fellowship hall, memorial garden and centennial celebration.
It was Jean's wish that it be known that her children and grandchildren were the delight of her life. Jean is survived by her three children, Harry St. George Tucker Harrison, III (Susan) of Ocean Isle Beach N.C., Sherrill Jean Harrison of Isle of Palms, S.C., and Lynne Harrison Reazin (Mike) of Richmond, Va.; eight grandchildren, Jacqueline Lowe (Tyler), Caroline Harrison (Nicholas Evans), Michael Reazin, Benjamin Harrison (Joyce Chung), John Reazin (Sarah), Duncan Lyle (Lynn Schmitt), Courtland Lyle (Laura Rooney) and Randolph Reazin; four great-grandsons, Harrison and James Lowe, Tucker Evans and West Reazin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry St. George Tucker Harrison, Jr., and her sister, Dr. Judith Duncan.
The funeral will be held at Oakwood United Methodist Church on January 2, 2024 at 2 p.m., followed by a graveside service and reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oakwood United Methodist Church, 1291 Columbia Road, Columbia, Va. 23038. Shorter Funeral Home is serving the family.
