Jean DeLoach Haldane, 89, of Asheville, NC, passed away on March 31, 2023, of complications from Alzheimer's disease. Jean was born in Pleasant Garden, NC. She married Douglas W. Haldane in 1960 and raised a family with him, living in many parts of the United States and in Honduras and Germany. Jean earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Auburn University, and worked as an elementary school teacher in Columbus, Georgia, and as a teacher of developmentally-challenged adults at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College in Asheville. She took on many volunteering responsibilities throughout her life, including helping at her children's schools, serving with the Girl Scouts, and working with the Altar Guild and as the wedding coordinator at Grace Episcopal Church in Asheville. Jean is survived by her daughters, Katherine Grenier (Stephen) of Charleston, SC and Susan Haldane of Asheville, NC; her grandchildren, Ian Grenier and Matthew Grenier both of Columbia, SC; and her brother, Culver Jackson DeLoach, Jr. (Karen Neeley) of Austin, TX.
A funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on April 14, 2023 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 60 Church Street, Asheville, NC with a reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the YWCA of Asheville or to Pleasant Garden United Methodist Church, 4834 Pleasant Garden Road, Pleasant Garden, NC 27313.
