Janine E. (Cote) McAvene, 72, of Orange passed away at home on Monday, December 20, 2021 after a long illness.
She was born in Clinton on November 2, 1949, where she was also raised. She graduated from Clinton High with the class of 1967. She was the daughter of the late Peter and Alice (Skinner) Cote of Clinton.
Jan worked as a supervisor in medical records and coding for over 35 years at area hospitals. She retired for medical reasons from Heywood Hospital in 2010.
Jan loved painting and was a very talented artist. There is nothing she enjoyed more than spending time with her grandkids, who were by far her greatest joy. She loved shopping for antiques and primitives and decorated her home beautifully with her many special finds. She was an avid reader and liked to relax on her porch with a good book and some sunshine.
She is survived by her son, Eric McAvene and his wife Lynn of Templeton; 2 grandchildren, Meghan and Brian McAvene; her brother, Peter Cote and his wife Donna of Lowell; 2 sisters, Pamela Lucies and her husband Anthony of Groveland; Deborah McGinley and her husband Terence of Lyman, ME; a brother-in-law, Charles Pennewill of Windham, CT; along with several nieces and nephews and many close friends.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved son, Brian McAvene and her two sisters, Mary (Judy) Pennewill and Jean McAvene.
There are no calling hours.
The family will have a private funeral and burial.
