We are grieving the loss of Janice Regina Rugg, who died Sunday, January 27, 2019. She succumbed to a ruptured brain aneurysm and passed away peacefully at Los Robles Hospital surrounded by family members. Janice was born in 1941 in Baltimore, MD to James and Julia Danielczyk. Her siblings were Bernadette, Sylvia, James, Robert, Louis, Edward, and William. She attended Catholic School at Sacred Heart of Mary in Dundalk. As a teen, she helped guide the family through difficult years after the passing of her father, including teaching her mom how to drive. Janice met the true-love of her life, William (Skip) Rugg at the Sea Gull Inn while dancing to live music that meant so much to her. They married in 1962, then honeymooned in NYC and Wildwood, NJ. Janice worked at a bakery, bank, Bethlehem Steel, elementary schools, and Costco. By far her most challenging, yet loyal job was raising a family of four children (Teresa, Will, Brian, and Kellie), along with seven grandchildren (Sheleena, Tessa, Casey, Elijah, Eden, Charles and Avery). Janice did all of that so well with her "git 'er done" style. The Rugg family moved to Simi Valley in 1973 and were early parishioners of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. Janice's resounding faith and attendance of daily mass filled her with tremendous joy. She was a real people-person by always caring for others in a genuine way, and never shy to converse with anyone in hopes of making their day. Janice took great delight in her backyard garden, tending to the plants and flowers, while attracting many birds with plentiful feed. Her love for the beach began with taking her mother and siblings to Ocean City, MD during summer vacations, and later with many blissful days along the Pacific Coast. Adventurous travels with Skip included Hawaii, Ireland, Canada, the Caribbean, Mexico to name a few. For Janice, the simple joys in life were what mattered most, like a warm cup of tea in good company. To pay your last respects, the viewing will be held on Monday, February 4, from 5-9pm (with Rosary at 7pm) at Reardon Simi Valley Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is on Tuesday, February 5, 10am at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. Reception will follow at the church.
