Janice Annette Lemons (Helmers)
1942 - 2020
Colorado City - Jan, 77, passed away peacefully in Lubbock with her loving family by her side on Monday, March 23, 2020. Born to Arno and Mildred Helmers in San Angelo, Texas on September 22, 1942, Jan graduated from Gradwohl School of Medical Technology in St. Louis, Missouri. She married Bobby Lemons on June 9, 1962 in McCamey, Texas. Jan was a lab technician, business owner (Montgomery Wards), community servant, devoted wife and loving mother.
Anyone who knew Jan (and she rarely met a stranger) knows what an amazing person she was. She truly had a servant's heart and devoted her life to helping those around her. Through her various activities with church and community organizations, Jan made sure those who needed clothing had clothing, those who needed food had food, and those who needed emotional support had emotional support. Even in her final hours, she spent most of her time thanking the doctors and nurses and praying for many of those in her life. It goes without saying that she will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and community.
She is survived by husband Bobby Lemons of Colorado City, daughter Dawn and husband Britt Chaney of Lubbock, son Robert and wife Amber Lemons of Stephenville, son Blaine and wife Janine Lemons of Colorado City, grandchildren Tyler and wife Whitney Chaney, Kyle Lemons, Casie and husband Kyler Free, Courtney and husband Taylor Sims, Reed Lemons, and Cade Lemons, great grandchild Collins Free, "adopted" children Sam Metzger, Bryan Stone, Lauran and husband Hunter Cox, Kaylen Carter, brother Stanley and wife Nelda Helmers, sister Arna and husband Glenn McCorkle, brother-in-law Billy Jacobs, brother-in-law Hurston Lemons, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Many beloved friends are also left behind to cherish her memory.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Johnny Helmers.
A memorial service for Jan will be held on Saturday June 20th at 10:30 am at the First Baptist Church in Colorado City. The family will receive friends at the Kiker Seale Funeral Home on Friday June 19th from 6-7:30pm
