Aubrey "Janette" Portner Coon, age 95, entered eternal life peacefully on February 16, 2022 in Missouri City, TX. Born in Paris Island, SC on January 23, 1927, Janette was the daughter of the late, Ferris D. Portner and Annie Lisette Harrison Portner.
She met the love of her life, Major Elvin. Ralph Coon Jr. (Marine Corps, Retired) working as a court reporter while he was a JAG Officer in Quantico, VA. Janette was a dedicated civil servant and retired from the federal government. She was a devoted and loving wife of 53 years preceded in death by her husband in 2012, and a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed working with puzzles, needlepoint, solitaire, and spending time with friends and family. She was a lifelong member of Aquia Episcopal Church in Stafford, VA. All who knew her were truly blessed by her dignity and grace. To know her was to love her and she will be missed by all.
She is survived by her brother, Ferris D. Portner, fondly known to her as "Sonny", of Fredericksburg, VA; her four children, Abby Turnbull of Manassas, VA, Julie Hunt of Haymarket, VA, Elvin Ralph Coon, III and wife Sieglinde von Deffner of Los Angeles, CA, Margaret Blanchard and husband Roger Blanchard of Missouri City, TX; eight grandchildren, Katelyn Wallace and husband James Wallace, Daniel Hunt, Jordan Blanchard, Andrew Turnbull, Kyle Turnbull, Cameron Blanchard, Tyler Blanchard, Nicholas Hunt; and a great-grandchild, Lucas Blanchard.
In honor of her life, a memorial service will be held on Friday, March 11, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Aquia Episcopal Church in Stafford, VA officiated by the Rev. Jay Morris. Interment will be at the church cemetery followed by a reception in the church parish hall.
